Forgotten Wallet
Here is an example of turning an awkward situation into an easy exchange of politeness, by using a rather genteel method of Advanced English.
Good evening Mr. and Mrs. Smith. I trust you enjoyed a pleasant dinner with us this evening?
Oh, to be sure we did Geeves! Everything was delightful.
And how shall you be paying tonight Mr. Smith? Cash or Charge?
Oh my, it seems I've forgotten my wallet. It must have been in my other dinner jacket, and I am without funds! Goodness, this is embarrassing!
Do not trouble yourself Mr. Smith. We are here to please you. Maybe you are able to telephone your card number into the restaurant when you reach home?
Of course, of course. That will not be a problem at all Geeves. And for your trouble, I'll be sure to provide a generous tip. Your kindness is impressing, to be sure. I'll not forget such a favor.
Once again, we aim to please here at The Golden Eatery. If our customers do not go away happy and contented, we are not happy and contented. Please enjoy the rest of your evening Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
And that we will Geeves...and that we will. Please expect my telephone call as soon as I arrive home. Good evening to you.
Good evening to you as well. Thanks for dining at The Golden Eatery.
